Don't miss the opportunity to work with world-renowned liturgical music composer, Tony Alonso, at the APMN Composers' Workshop on 24 May, 2025!
Held at St Gregory’s College, Campbelltown (100 Badgally Rd, Gregory Hills NSW 2557), this one-day event promises to be an inspiring and educational experience for all music enthusiasts and composers. On Saturday 24 May, from 9am to 4pm, attendees will have the chance to engage with Tony Alonso, learning from his expertise in liturgical music and composition.
Tony Alonso is a Latin Grammy-nominated composer of sacred music and a scholar known for his work that engages with the diverse realities of contemporary culture. A Cuban-American Roman Catholic, Tony's compositions incorporate a rich blend of multicultural musical styles, while remaining deeply rooted in the traditions of liturgical music. His work reflects a strong commitment to creating vibrant, meaningful ritual songs that resonate with today’s worshippers.
Tony will begin with a session of prayer and introductions, followed by Session I: Foundations of Composing for Liturgy. Those who attend will then be invited to share some of their own compositions in a music sharing session. This will be followed by a shared lunch (provided) and then end with Session II: Confessions of a Liturgical Composer.
Whether you’re an experienced composer or just starting out, this workshop offers valuable insights into creating meaningful, pastoral music that resonates with congregations.
