Fr. Michael Joncas presenting at APMN’s conference in 2014
The ACU Centre for Liturgy will have the pleasure to host Fr J Michael Joncas in a new online public lecture to be delivered live from the US via Zoom. It is entitled “Composing for a Church at Prayer” and will take place on Monday 19 July, 10 – 11.30am AEST.
This presentation will explore the theory and practice of one composer in creating liturgical music over the last half century. After distinguishing various kinds of music one might hear at worship, it will explore:
1) the texts we sing in the context of liturgical worship;
2) the music by which we sing these texts; and
3) the ritual(s) for which these sung texts are intended.
Fr Joncas will illustrate these topics with reference to his own compositions, giving insight into what factors entered into their composition and how they have been received both by worshiping communities and various critics.
More information including a link to the registration portal can be found here, on ACU’s news and events page. There is a small registration fee of $10 ($5 concession) for this lecture.
